Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a manual treatment of the joints – spine, pelvis and limbs. It is also called parietal osteopathy or manual therapy. The aim is to restore normal mobility where a function is disturbed.

How a session works

Detailed case history. When do the symptoms occur, where exactly, how do they feel, what triggers them? I also ask about your occupation, your sport and your hobbies. What you do all day often has more to do with your pain than the moment it first appeared.

Posture and observation. Asymmetries, poor positions, deviations of axis.

Movement tests. Flexion, extension, side bending, rotation, abduction and adduction, depending on the problem.

Palpation. Joint positions, axis deviations, the tone of the surrounding muscles.

Heat where appropriate, with an infrared lamp or a hot roll.

Muscular techniques to release: cross-friction, massage, stretching along and across the fibres.

Joint techniques: traction, translatory gliding, mobilisation and manipulation.

Does it crack?

Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. What counts is not the sound but the improvement in function and the reduction in pain.

Why I usually start with the muscles

Bones belong to the passive part of the locomotor system. They end up in the wrong position because muscular tension puts them there. Often the joint position and function settle by themselves once the muscular balance is restored.

Looking for the cause, not just the blockage

I also look for what led to the blockage. Frequently these are movements and postures that recur every day. We answer them with targeted exercises: stretching what is shortened, strengthening what is weak, correcting posture for lasting stability.

Exercises for home

Chirogymnastics are self-mobilisation exercises you can do at home. You learn them at the practice.

When I do not manipulate

Where contraindications exist – osteoporosis, suspected disc herniation – I do not work with manipulation. The same applies if the examination points to other causes, or if you are afraid of it. There are enough other ways.

How many appointments?

Acute complaints usually need one to two sessions, chronic ones more.

Why people come

Painful restrictions of movement throughout the locomotor system: spine, atlas misalignment, back pain, frozen shoulder, knee pain, functional disturbances and many others. Work on the atlas is part of chiropractic here, not a separate method.

Appointments and fees

A session costs between 80 and 120 euros. Telephone: +49 160 50 55 374. Further answers on the FAQ page.

The conditions mentioned here are examples of application. They are in no way a promise of cure, and treatment is not advisable in every case.
